Oh man. This cover of Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) by Arcade Fire is stunningly beautiful. I would advise these two people to have a child together ASAP. Look at that sparkle in their eyes!

Filmed by Porto Franco, performed by Quinn DeVeaux and Meklit Hadero. Discovered on Mission Mission.

This weekend we took Talitha on her first flight, just a quick trip to Long Beach and back for our friend Tyler’s wedding. She did pretty well and with equal parts strategy and luck, all 3 of us came out smiling. She even got her own set of wings from the Jet Blue staff! Saturday night was our first night away from the baby, and even though Tilly wasn’t there in person, she was the focus of most of my conversations and thoughts. Breaking loose on the dance floor at the wedding was a big highlight though, and it felt so amazing to goof around with our old friends from college (see photo of our acrobatic antics in the photobooth above). All in all, a huge success.

When we flew home on Sunday, we sat next to this nice man who was all googly eyed over Tilly. He said he had a granddaughter who was one and a half and just thought she was the cutest thing he’d ever seen. (obviously!) He also mentioned that he remembered us from the flight the day before, and how we looked so sweet, young and bewildered. We both got a good laugh out of that because no matter how cool you try to play it, new parenting is scary and sometimes there’s just no hiding it! Toward the end of the flight we started chatting more with him, about San Francisco, he asked us what kind of work we do, etc etc. Josh asked him how long he had lived in San Francisco and he said since 1972. Then he asked us if we had ever seen the movie Milk, and said that one of the characters in the movie is based on him… He’s Cleve Jones! We knew exactly which one he was, the young activist played by Emile Hirsch… no way!! We told him about how the movie had touched us and what an honor it was to be sitting next to him. He later joked about how one day soon Tilly’s going to be hanging out with all the hipsters in Dolores Park, but we told him she’s already a regular there… :) He walks his granddaughter in the park every day so maybe we’ll run into him again in the future. It was so so cool and we are still so honored to have met him, and honored that he felt comfortable telling us who he was.

Of course, I googled him the second I had phone service and learned more about what he’s been up to since interning for Harvey Milk in the early 70s. Come to find out, he’s the creator of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and a world renowned human rights activist. As someone who is easily starstruck, I could barely contain myself for the rest of the day, and am still a little giddy over it. Meeting a movie star is one thing, but Cleve Jones is actually someone who has humbly changed the world for the better… I’m so glad our path crossed with his!

Pleasantly surprised by the Marmot sale on RueLaLa this morning! Mummybag and vest - I’ll see you soon. And all before Josh even wakes up… Muahhahahahaha!

Well, our 3rd soccer season came to an end last night, still with no wins. This little movie is sure to cheer us up though. As Pol says, “We’ll score when we grow old.” Our first season overall score was 60 points to 1, and theirs is 271 to 1! Watch it, seriously, it will melt your heart.

teux deux

I’ve been using some pretty amazing web apps these days and I thought I could share them with you. First off is Teux Deux, a simple designy to-do app that syncs up with an iphone app as well. It’s totally bare bones but still nice looking and super useful. I have it as one of my home page tabs and have been using it ever since returning from maternity leave. Yay!

I had this whole blog post written in my head about our wild road trip home from OC, but a few days have past and the intensity has pretty much faded. Basically it involved a failed attempt to drive home in one day, a rattlesnake*, us almost driving off with the gas pump still in the car, spending $1.25 on my dinner from the hotel vending machine (cup o’ noodles!) and the most incredible luggage jenga game I’ve ever played. All while Josh was on the verge of vomit.
But it was so pretty! The scenery reminded me of a some William Wendt peices that were on display at the Orange County Museum of Art when I interned there years ago… Also, I am thanking my lucky stars for the Lullaby station on Pandora.
So we are home now and much happier and healthier. Ahhhh…
*We pulled over to feed the bambina near santa barbara and I swear on my life, I heard a rattlesnake in the brush next to me! I yelled “Get in the car!” at the top of my lungs and 2 seconds later we were gone. Phew!

I’m a big fan of metromint water. It’s so delicious and as an often congested person, it clears my nasal passages in the most refreshing way!
BUT - today I tried the ChocoMint flavor. Pretty tasty… I looked at the ingredients to see how they make it taste like chocolate and it says “Water, Mint, Essence of Cocoa”. What the heck is essence of cocoa?

We have been having the best time visiting family these past few weeks. Yesterday my mom babysat Tilly and I went shopping and to the beach. It was so lovely! It’s definitely been nice having a plethora of baby sitters around…

Today Tilly met my grandma Bobbie for the first time and it was so sweet. Gramma recently broke her ankle and is in a rehab center, so their meet up was really uplifting for her. And of course Tilly was on her best behavior so gramma fell even more in love!

Today was also Tilly’s first trip to the beach! Well, she didn’t touch the sand or the water, but she got a feel for it anyway. We were celebrating our friend melissa’s birthday and it was baby/pregnant lady overload! (in the best way possible!)

We head home on Sunday… Not sure I’m ready to trade my bathing suit for a pea coat, but San Francisco summer is just around the corner and I’m ready for some family picnics!

good morning! I’ve been waking up at 6 lately and totally loving the mornings. I feel so old saying that but it’s true!

Today the little bird and I are going shopping with my mom for my birthday at Fashion Island and I just can’t wait! Then this evening after Josh gets home from work we’re going on a hike through the Fullerton horse trails with the Pendletons. I’m stoked to get some walking in finally, I’m so much more sedentary down here since I have a car all to my self.

Right now Tilly’s sleeping on my lap and I’m writing on my iPad. I was catching up on some blogs and found this abstract art how-to on Oh Happy Day. I think our kitchen could use something like this!

A few weeks ago we went hiking at Fort Miley, at the very Northern tip of San Francisco. I strapped the baby to me, Josh wrangled Tank, and we went for it. So gorgeous! Hiking down to that little beach was a little sketch, but I just took my time and it was totally fine. Feeding Talitha at the very bottom was so peaceful & lovely. This is what maternity leave is all about!
